Whipped Feta

Feta cheese, with its salty, tangy flavor, is already an incredible addition to a charcuterie board. However, whipped feta is almost entirely different, with its creamy, spreadable texture. It’s fantastic served in a dish all on its own, or it can be elevated even further by adding a few complementary toppings.

Ingredients

  • Feta cheese
  • Whipped cream cheese
  • Olive oil or heavy cream

The ratio for feta to cream cheese should be about 2:1, with a drizzle of olive oil if you’d prefer it a bit looser. You can use heavy cream in place of the olive oil, or omit the cream cheese altogether and use either olive oil or heavy cream – just a little at a time – to make it extra smooth and creamy.

Equipment Needed

A food processor works best for getting the smoothest feta possible. A blender will also work, but it’s a pain to get all of the whipped feta out – but it’s still perfectly doable! I don’t advise using an immersion blender for this recipe (despite recommending it for other whipped cheese recipes).

You’ll also need a shallow dish or bowl to serve it in, as well as a spatula to scrape down the sides while it’s being whipped.

How to Make Whipped Feta

Place softened feta and cream cheese in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse a few times, then blend until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute. If it’s too thick, drizzle in a tablespoon of olive oil or heavy cream, blend again, and add more as necessary.

Taste and add additional ingredients if desired. A minced clove of garlic, fresh herbs, cracked black pepper, and/or crushed red pepper flakes are all delicious!

Storing and Making Ahead

This recipe can be made up to three days ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Allow it to sit out for approximately 30 minutes before serving.

Whipped Feta Topping Ideas

The beauty of adding whipped feta to a charcuterie board is that it can be served on its own, and guests can add whichever toppings they like. It’s also a great way to try different flavor combinations to find your new favorite! If you’d like to add a few toppings for a more tailored appetizer, here are some suggestions:

  • Kalamata olives + minced cucumber + a drizzle of olive oil
  • Hot honey + chopped pecans
  • Chopped tomatoes + chopped cucumber
  • Assorted freshly chopped herbs
  • Cranberry sauce + chopped pecans
  • Honey + sliced strawberries
  • Sliced fresh figs + a drizzle of honey
